Bob Steel

THE “VOICE” OF BACK TO THE BRICKS®

Remembering ROBERT ARTHUR “Bob Steel” LEETS, 1941-2018.

The classic car community was shocked and saddened at the recent passing of BOB STEEL, the “voice” of Back to the Bricks®.

Bob’s love affair with music and cars began early. As a boy, he received a record player from his parents for Christmas, and laughed as he recalled “driving my folks nuts as I played the same 45’s over and over,” or pressing his nose against the glass at the local radio station to watch the DJ at work.

Bob successfully combined his love for music and cars into a second career as a radio personality/disc jockey, “spinnin’ the oldies” from the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s as official host for hundreds of “cruises” and car shows. A music trivia expert and fellow car enthusiast, Bob collected classic cars, automotive and music memorabilia, and was a long time member of the Buick Club of America. He was an integral part of the Back to the Bricks® organization from the earliest days, serving as DJ, announcer, and a valued member of the Committee. At the time of death, Bob’s online schedule for the Spring/Summer 2018 was packed with “cruises,” area car shows, and Back to the Bricks® events.

Bob always ended his weekly radio show with the words, “That’s all folks!” and car shows with a duet by Roy Rogers and Dale Evans. Regrettably, we do the same. Bob Steel, you will be remembered fondly and greatly missed by your Back to the Bricks® family. “Happy Trails to you until we meet again!”

Funeral arrangements provided by Martin Funeral, Cremation, and Tribute Services of Mt. Morris. Contributions in Bob’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association or the Back to the Bricks® Scholarship Fund.
